2010 Long Beach Bulldog Beauty Contest
Monday, March 1, 2010 at 8:51PM On Sunday Nick and I decided to check out the Long Beach Bulldog Beauty Contest. It's an event that happens every year and is a fundraiser for Justin Rudd's non-profit, the Community Action Team. The website for the beauty contest said they expected hundreds of bulldogs to be there, which I could hardly believe, and sure enough there were over 400 dogs! It was a little chaotic but super fun to be around so many bulldogs!
I haven't met many bulldogs but now I'm definitely a fan! Yes, they are round and wrinkly and don't move very fast but they are also soft and squishy and incredibly friendly!! With so many dogs around you'd think there would be some quarrels but everyone seemed pretty well behaved!
For the beauty contest each dog had a chance to strut their stuff across a stage and were judged on their personality, charm, face, figure, and first impression (kinda like a real beauty pageant). Then the dogs walked through the crowd on a long red carpet, where they couldn't make it more then a few steps at a time because all the spectators were so eager to smother the dogs with lots of pets :-)
It was such a fun event and I will definitely be going back next year! It was really hard to narrow my pictures down, but here are some of my favorites! If you want to see more of these beauties I posted an album on the facebook fan page!

And the winner is, Winston!!

These are great! Looks like a fun time. My fave is the little girl walking her dog with the purple feather outfit, so ridiculous.
Those dogs are awesome! I wish we had this event in Orange County as a bull dog owner its good too see!
Personality galore!!! Thats what I see captured in the faces of each bulldog. WhinnyandSnap has my vote for best pet photographer in the OC.
Oh my, thanks for this wonderful post about this great event, hope we could catch this on our vacation this year and of course bring our bulldog George to meet lots of dogs and nice girls too! When it will be this year?
